It was a truly inspirational games where Team England came together and inspired the nation, winning 57 gold medals, including their first-ever Hockey gold. There are endless highlights from the games, but here are our top 4 moments:
- Katarina Johnson-Thompson claimed her first heptathlon title for three years as she successfully defended her Commonwealth Games crown. This was her first victory since experiencing a career-threatening injury. She achieved her personal best in the javelin achieving 44.33m
- Tom Dean became England’s most decorated athlete at a single Commonwealth Games, with a ‘special’ gold after six successive silver medals in the pool. He was part of the men’s 4x100m medley relay where he finally got his hands on a Commonwealth gold
- 17-year-old Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix won a total of three medals at the games, which saw her achieve two golds. One of which was the 10m platform. Her performance was truly inspirational for the younger generation to see that anything is possible!
- Dame Laura Kenny has endured a traumatic period since the Tokyo Games. However, she secured gold in the women’s 10km scratch race despite their being a pause midway following a crash involving two riders.
